# ReadMetric

## Description

ReadMetric calculates how long a post takes to read based on word count (and, optionally,
images) and displays it wherever you need it: automatically before or after the 
content/title, via a Gutenberg block, a shortcode, or a PHP function.

**Features**

 * Automatic reading time calculation (configurable words-per-minute, 100–400)
 * Choose where it appears: before/after content, before/after title, or manual 
   only
 * Optional icon (clock, book, stopwatch), custom prefix/suffix text
 * Optional per-image reading time addition
 * Optional estimated “finish by” clock time
 * Optional scroll-based reading progress bar
 * Optional schema.org `timeRequired` markup (off by default to avoid clashing with
   SEO plugins)
 * Gutenberg block with icon/prefix/suffix controls and native alignment/color/typography
   support
 * `[readmetric]` shortcode and `readmetric_get_time()` / `readmetric_display()`
   PHP functions
 * REST API endpoint: `/wp-json/readmetric/v1/post/{id}`
 * Per-post “disable reading time” option
 * Optional admin list-table column
 * Reading time is cached in post meta and recalculated only when content or settings
   change
 * Tools: clear cache, recalculate all posts, export/import settings

## Installation

 1. Upload the plugin folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`.
 2. Activate the plugin through the “Plugins” menu in WordPress.
 3. Go to Settings  ReadMetric to configure it.

## FAQ

### How do I show the reading time manually?

Use the `[readmetric]` shortcode, or call `readmetric_display()` in a template.

### Does this work with custom post types?

Yes — enable any public post type under Settings  ReadMetric  General.

### Will this duplicate my SEO plugin’s schema markup?

No, schema output is off by default. Enable it only if you don’t already have Article/
WebPage schema from another plugin.
